Gorge Spears, a man from Texas, has surrendered to police after being caught on camera appearing to leave his dog at the side of a very busy road. The Dallas Marshal's Office and the SPCA of Texas had set up a camera at a known spot for people to drop off animals, and their plan led to the first arrest in the area. Last month, a 1-year-old dog was left on the side of the road by Spears. After further investigation, a warrant was issued for the man. After hearing of the warrant, Spears turned himself in and told the police that he had been trying to help his sister get rid of the dog, as she was unable to manage it.
Spears is being held at the Dallas County Jail on charges of criminal animal cruelty. Claira-Belle was discovered by eyewitnesses and later taken to the SPCA where she has since been adopted. We can only hope that the authorities will take action to put an end to these inhumane acts against animals in the community.
